Standardization of Unani polyherbal formulation (Zanjabeel, Luk-e-maghsool, suddab and Marzanjosh)

Background: Standardization of herbal drugs is very important for quality control. It improves the safety and efficacy drug to provide best possible medicine society. Unani polyherbal Formulation comprising Tukhm-e-Suddab (Ruta graveolens), Zanjabeel (Zingiber officinale), Luk-e-maghsool (Laccifer lacca / Coccus lacca) Marzanjosh (Origanum vulgare L.) mentioned by Hakim Najmul Ghani in his treatise khazainul Advia treatment obesity was selected standardisation. This formulation used a powdered form. The main aim this study standardize UPF, on basis organoleptic characters physico-phytochemical analysis. Methods: were cleaned, dried shade passing through sieve # no. 80 as per method described National Formulary Medicine. Safoof evaluated using physicochemical tests: extractive value, alcohol water soluble, ash LOD at 105°C, pH TLC. Statistical analysis used: Mean ± SEM.Result: Organoleptic are brown colour, aromatic, tangy taste coarse texture. Physicochemical parameters displayed soluble (14.96 0.145), (20.30 0.264), total (7.83 0.166), acid insoluble (2.16 0.600), (5.66 0.928), 105oC (9.73 0.260), 1% 10% solution 8.23 0.033 6.23 0.145 respectively. Phytochemical qualitative presence alkaloids, carbohydrate, glycosides, tannins, sterol, starch, phenols, saponin, fixed oil amino acid. Conclusion: standardization done data obtained would be standard future reference.
